St. Charles City Cuts Voice Of Dissent

The city of St. Charles, made famous by it's outlawing of cursing in public bars, is at it again. Within hours of a banner being displayed on a busy pat of I-70, the city removed the banner, and the voice of the people with it.

A banner reading: "FIGHT THE RICH, DON'T VOTE FOR THEM" was dropped today, November 4th, on an overpass in St. Charles, MO. The banner, which measured aproximately 6 ft. x 20 ft., was streched across on overpass just outside of the county's largest voting station. Within thirty yards of the banner, billboards for casinos and gated communities have flown high and intrusive over the much driven freeway, without any disturbance.

A time to dialogue, a time to demand

A time to dialogue, a time to demand

Coalition and compromise are important tools in building diverse mass movement for social justice, but there are times to dialogue and there are times to demand.

The upcoming RNC protests in St. Paul are an example of when it’s time to throw down and fuck shit up.

Direct Action for Direct Democracy: Shut Down the Republication National Convention

POG adopts Sector 1 and will blockade 7th and Wall Streets

Monday, September 1, will be a day of civil disobedience and direct action to shut down the opening of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Pittsburgh Organizing Group (POG) will join these actions in opposition to a two-party system incapable of meeting basic human needs that is bankrupting and decimating our communities through a culture of war and fear.

Four Activists Shut Down Bank of America for Fossil Fools Day Action

On Tuesday April 1, at about 8:40am, four activists took direct action against the Bank of America in Copley Square, Boston, by locking themselves to the front door to protest the banks funding of coal power in the US. The action was done with support from Rising Tide North America, the Rainforest Action Network, and the Energy Action Coalition.

The four activists: Elise Ansel, Adrienne Naylor, Laila Murad, and Candace Bollinger used large, cylindrical tubes to lock their arms together, as Bollinger was locked directly to the door-handle of the bank with a bicycle u-lock around her neck. Protesters on both sides of the street held up banners, chanted, sang songs, and yelled encouragement for their four comrades, while bearing the strong wind that ripped through the streets.

IVAW: To the Anti-War movement

An Open Letter to the Anti-War Movement From Iraq Veterans Against the War

As we approach the fifth anniversary of the quagmire known as the invasion/occupation of Iraq, many of us feel a need to mark this occasion with an appropriately momentous show of resistance. For the past few months, IVAW has been organizing "Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan." From March 13-16, 2008, we will assemble the largest gathering of US veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan in history, as well as Iraqi and Afghan survivors, to offer first-hand, eyewitness accounts to tell the truth about these occupations — their impact on the troops, their families, our nation, and the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. Winter Soldier will require IVAW's full attention and organizing capacity leading up to and during the event.

We would like to have as many people as possible attend the event and we are making arrangements to provide live broadcasting of the hearings for those who cannot hear the testimony first hand, as space will be limited. We ask all of you to help us to spread the message of the testimony, raise funds, and get more veterans and GIs involved.
