electionObama Wins. Where from Here? Peaceworks' PerspectiveHello friends, This week we depart from our usual Updates format. We will be sending an event update with Nook News in a day or two. We do want to remind you that our Annual Dinner is this Saturday, Nov. 15. Details are at http://www.midmopeaceworks.org/events.php#258 This post, however, offers our perspective on the current moment, examining the implications of Obama's election and what it bodes for those of us working for peace, sustainability and social justice. We hope you will take a few minutes to read it through and consider our our perspective. We, of course, invite and welcome your feedback. Note that we have not tried to be comprehensive in addressing the issues that will need to be addressed in the months ahead. Rather, we have attempted to put together a framework for understanding our current situation and used a few examples to illustrate our situation. Thanks for your interest and your work to move us forward in our shared efforts to promote a peaceful, just and sustainable future. Your friends at Peaceworks Hello friends, This week we depart from our usual Updates format. We will be sending an event update with Nook News in a day or two. We do want to remind you that our Annual Dinner is this Saturday, Nov. 15. Details are at http://www.midmopeaceworks.org/events.php#258 CODDLING OF PALIN IS FALSE FEMINISM, DISGUISED SEXISM, AND RIGHT-WING ANTI-WORKING-WOMEN THATCHERISMThe call of so-called feminists to coddle Palin is really disguised sexism and based on a medieval, male-chauvinist mentality that women are weak and fragile and should be protected. We don’t need an American Margaret Thatcher, an icon and poster child for right-wing policies that harm poor and middle-class working women, the majority of women. It’s time to expose Palin for what she really is. Some women groups and advocates are screaming that media bashing of Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is sexism. BEHOLD THE PALIN HORSE! BEWARE OF THE CLIMATE APOCALYPSE!Americans who love the environment must beat back the Palin horse and the climate apocalypse it is bringing. Obama is a Honky, McCain is a Slave, and We’re All Still Oppressed by the Whores of the Lesser Wombfirst, a quote from the bible. hope this doesn't stop you from continuing reading. Obama doesn’t deserve to win unless he steps up to the real change that it is time for, which is the actual future. What was the one thing people actually spoke out for against the Bush regime? The one thing people saw some kind of funky hope in peeking out of their subconsciouses in the murk of the drear-clear sunny morning talk show drives to and from work that is their lives? STEM CELLS. Yes, that got people nodding awake, but not yet stirring from slumber. Because in their hearts there was a quiet murmur that said… yummm… possibility. Of what though? McCain's Alzheimer'sIs getting more noticeable ATLANTA - McCain will be hurt by his admission that he does not remember how many houses he owns, commentators said. McCain’s idea of a home mortgage crisis is when his wife won’t buy him another house. ' We want presidents who 'get' what the average American is dealing with." The dispute arose on Wednesday when McCain was asked by the Politico newspaper how many houses he owns with his wife Cindy, a wealthy heiress to a beer distributorship. Executive Signing StatementsPharaoh Bush - Let My People Go In a refreshing investigative series in the Boston Globe from 2006, journalist Charlie Savage dropped a bombshell on the Bush administration . Reporting on Bush’s use of signing statements, Savage highlighted the president’s long-standing contempt for legislative authority. Since then, the story has generally been overlooked, although it recently resurfaced when bush issued another statement that he would disregard Congress’s prohibition of permanent military bases in Iraq. Frank Moore Gathers Presidential Electors Nationwide For Groundbreaking Write-In Campaign"The response of people on the street to our platform is overwhelming," said 2008 Write-In Presidential candidate Frank Moore this week in an interview with Radar Online*. Now Moore has turned to both his supporters and the general public from California to Maine in order to line up citizens nationwide who would be willing to stand for him in the Electoral College as Presidential Electors in what has become possibly the most interesting news story of this political season. Moore, a world-renowned performance artist based in Berkeley, California, has put forth a comprehensive platform rivaling the major party candidates under the title, “The Just Makes Sense Party”. See: http://www.frankmooreforpresident08.com/ Moore’s grassroots campaign promises radical changes to the current system of politics and government in the U.S., bringing in what he calls, “a webwork of caring.” He writes that “is it all about caring and choice,” and proposes a guaranteed minimum income (GMI) for every U.S. citizen. |
