NewsKDHX CUTS AN IMPORTANT NEWS SOURCEAccording to an informal community survey conducted by KDHX members this September, listeners and members of KDHX overwhelmingly favor bringing the award winning Democracy Now! back to its full hour broadcast five days a week on the radio station. This response follows the decision by KDHX management to cut Democracy Now! airtime to a mere ten minute headlines broadcast Monday through Friday back in August (reported back on August 8 on the STL IMC newswire). Many responding to the survey complained about cutting the news show 's broadcast time: "You can't get the full story on the world in just one hour, let alone 10 minutes," one person responded. The Enclosed Public: Protest and Premonitions at the Vice-Presidential Debate in St. LouisA record television audience of almost 70 million people viewed the vice-presidential debate last Thursday night at Washington University's Athletic Complex in St. Louis. But nearly a mile out of view of the complex lay an example of what corporations, the media, and the state have together tried to quell in increasingly forceful ways: public dissent. 44.1 kHz 128 Kbps min maimetuner_houseforclosure.mp3 1:53 (1.72 MB) 44.1 kHz 128 Kbps min melanieshoust_healthcaresystem.mp3 3:05 (2.82 MB) 44.1 kHz 128 Kbps min drjohnson.mp3 9:58 (9.12 MB) 44.1 kHz 128 Kbps min andrew_schoolboard.mp3 5:34 (5.10 MB) 44.1 kHz 128 Kbps min kalimuendesha_policebrutailty.mp3 3:22 (3.09 MB) 44.1 kHz 128 Kbps min barricades.mp3 0:58 (0.88 MB) Over one hundred workers, activists, students, veterans and families gathered in Northmoor park near campus to voice alternatives to the candidates' discussion of abstract policy issues. Activist groups Instead of War, Code Pink, and Veterans for Peace organized the protest to highlight the narrow scope of the debate, and to expose the carefully mediated lack of public access to discussions of public policy. Dan Kliman, founder of St Louis Critical Mass, has diedDan Kliman was a strong advocate of bicycles as transportation.. He was the force behind St Louis Critical Mass. He moved to Oakland CA in 2002. On Monday, December 1, 2008 his body was found at the bottom of an elevator shaft in San Francisco. We'd like to organize a memorial service for Dr Dan. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/12/02/BAVE14GCD6.D... (12-02) 21:16 PST -- It was a bizarre and abrupt way to die for a man who, by all accounts, went at life full-bore and was fit and agile from riding his bicycle everywhere he went. But as San Francisco police combed over the evidence Tuesday, investigators said this is what appears to have happened: Dr. Daniel J. Kliman, an Alameda physician and one of the Bay Area's foremost pro-Israel activists, stepped into an open elevator shaft by accident last week and died. U.S.SEC Cyber Czar John Reed Stark,Steve Honig,California Attorney Joshua Ridless,Image Entertainment,Inc. Pump DumpBefore 'my attorney' Joshua A Ridless,(who lied to indymedia volunteers who he was harrassing to remove my posts about not being able to contact me while he told me he was blocking my emails to him), begins a new assault on free speech on the internet in general and the indymedias - in particular over this writing - and maybe even throws the 'anti semitic' slur against me again for good measure, he should first go to Yahoo!'s Image Entertainment Inc., or 'DISK' message board where his and Steve Honig's, et.al.'s 'press release' is being called a 'pump and dump' press release first. And no I didn't post anything on Yahoo! about his Image Entertainment being a 'pump and dump',as he knows because Yahoo! stole my email and prevents me or blocks me from warning about scams like his.Glad to see someone is warning on Yahoo! though because those promoting frauds are generally given the greatest voice there. The global crisis is a crisis of capitalismIt is time for the workers and the poor in the Philippines to prepare for the worse the moment its government keeps on repeating the mantra that the economic fundamentals remain good and thus there is little to worry about effects of the global recessionary trend. The world found itself in the present mess precisely because of such blind faith in neoliberal fundamentalism. The shallow basis for such declarations from the government is supposedly the fact that most of Philippine exports are being sent to China rather than the US. But China is just a transit point or a gigantic department in the assembly line that spans the globe. Thus exports to China will simply be assembled there and then ultimately sent to the US, Japan or Europe as finished products. Such is the international division of labor under the era of globalization. |
