Novartis Knock Down Day
Novartis Knock Down Day is a call for actions against Novartis on Monday, October 27th for being one of Huntingdon Life Sciences’ (HLS’s) largest customers. Without customers of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) there simply would be no Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). The customers pay Huntingdon to test products and carry out research. If Huntingdon lost all their customers then they would have no income and be forced to close. There are only ten companies which give Huntingdon Life Sciences 45% of their income; these include Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Five feet high and rising
Anticipated worldwide sea level rises will make all coastal cities uninhabitable in time. New Orleans and Galveston should look to the future and accept inevitable relocation to high ground.
Hurricane Ike Shows Futility of Building on Barrier Islands
FOXNews

By Clara Moskowitz
As Hurricane Ike pummeled the Texas coast this weekend, the only thing standing in the way was a thin stretch of land called Galveston Island... .

10/10/2008 - 12:00am - 10/12/2008 - 11:59pmYour Computer is a War Zone. I’m Looking for Sarah Connor. And Not Any Bullsh*t TV Show That’s On Today.
I noticed today Netflix is reducing the movies I have on my queue by 3 titles, 3 titles I have already requested to watch but for some reason they are discontinuing on their “line.”
These movies are:
“The Libertine”
“Live Nude Girls Unite!”
and
“Short Circuit”
Now, ok… they have a right, I suppose, to not carry every movie ever made… to my disappointment, but let’s see, they chose, a 2004 movie starring Johnny Depp? to remove, over, say, The Toxic Avenger by the Troma kids, seeing as how that is such a classic piece of art, or so well made, or such a profound statement of the human soul? Which, I’m not saying it isn’t. It definitely is. I identify with the toxic avenger, man… He knows my soul. But I’m getting off topic.
DNC Protest, Split, and the Principled Stand of Cynthia McKinney
"As the United States activated Navy ships and the Air Force to begin an airlift of non-specified goods into the former Soviet state of Georgia, and military exercises began in the Persian Gulf near Iran, I received communications from certain individuals among the Colorado Greens who were organizing campaign support events there, suggesting that I not participate in an anti-war program being organized by other individuals in Colorado." -Cynthia McKinney
DNC Protest, Split, and the Principled Stand of Cynthia McKinney
By Steven Argue
Protest plans have been in the works against the Democratic National Convention (DNC) for some time now, with organizers opposing the Democrat Party’s policies of war and occupation, backing of continued corporate policies that cause global warming, and their attacks on immigrants.
The Old Future’s Gone: Progressive Strategy Amid Cascading Crises
“The old future’s gone,” John Gorka sings. “We can’t get to there from here.”1
That insight from Gorka,2 one of my favorite singer/songwriters chronicling the complexity of our times, deserves serious reflection. Tonight I want to argue that the way in which we humans have long imagined the future must be rethought, as the scope and depth of the cascading crises we face become painfully clearer day by day.
