Maoist China foreign policy: 1970s and 1980s

The Mandate of Heaven (Excerpt). A detailed account of Maoist Chinese foreign policy is beyond the scope of this article, but some examples will illustrate the central thesis: that China’s foreign policy is in no way different from that of other world powers. The Three-Worlds Theory was used to justify Chinese alliances with right-wing reactionary governments during the 1970s and 1980s.

The Third World

Asia

(a) SOUTHEAST ASIA. Only in China’s traditional “sphere of influence” has the People’s Republic given consistent material support to powers abroad – to North Korea and North Vietnam – and verbal support to movements against governments with which it has friendly diplomatic relations.

5th Anniversary of "Mission Accomplished" in Iraq

Happy 5th Anniversary, America!

May 1, 2008 was the 5th anniversary of the day President George Walker Bush, televised from a U.S. Battleship, told the American people that we have completed our mission in Iraq.

Five years later there is one thing we do know for sure. We are still stuck in Iraq and will be for an undetermined length of time. Since that time another almost 2,000 Americans and Iraqis have died in Iraq. Many deaths were the "innocents" whose only fault was in living too close among the terrorist fighting population.

Ruling Against Mumia Shows: No Justice in the Capitalist Courts

On March 27, the U.S. appeals court in Philadelphia reaffirmed the frame-up conviction of Mumia Abu-Jamal, the former Black Panther Party spokesman and world-renowned radical journalist who has been locked up on Pennsylvania’s death row for more than a quarter century. After previously rejecting Mumia’s request to present evidence of his innocence, as well as a host of issues showing that he was railroaded by a racist court, the Court turned down Mumia’s request for a new trial. It upheld the 2001 ruling by a federal district judge that ordered a new hearing on the sentence, but limited the “choice” to the living hell of life imprisonment without parole ... or execution. Mumia is innocent. He was declared guilty and sentenced to die because of his revolutionary politics and because for years he had been a thorn in the side of the racist rulers of the misnamed “city of brotherly love.” Around the world, millions have come out in defense of Jamal. This latest ruling, like all those that preceded it, shows that the exploited and oppressed must have no faith in the racist injustice system. We call on the workers movement to mobilize its power to free Mumia now!

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's 's Air Water Corp stock fraud promotes pedophilia

While I myself was a critic of Democratic African-American Congressman William Jefferson of New Orleans for receiving what appears to be stock shares in a public company for using his influence to lobby for contracts for that company in Africa - I oppose completely the FBI's use of tax payers' money to entrap that congressman. While defrauded investors such as myself are made to feel helpless and hopeless before the SEC and the DOJ in retreiving our own legitimately derived money from those who run penny stock scams and send our money to anonymous accounts offshore that the FBI should have an obligation to search and prosecute - it is an insult to use additional taxpayers money just for the political purpose of 'setting up' a Congressman or any other person because they are in a minority political or racial or economic class or the prosecutors have a Republican or other agenda. The $90,000 used by ther FBI to entrap Congressman William Jefferson, for example, could have been used instead to prosecute Florida Congressman Tim Mahoney and his vFinance,.......

ILWU to Shut Down West Coast Ports May 1 Demanding End to War in Iraq, Afghanistan

In a major step for the U.S. labor movement, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) has announced that it will shut down West Coast ports on May 1, to demand an immediate end to the war and occupation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Middle East. This is the first time in decades that an American union has decided to undertake industrial action against a U.S. war. The action announced by the powerful West Coast dock workers union, to stop work to stop the war, should be taken up by unions and labor organizations throughout the United States and internationally. And the purpose of such actions should be not to beg the bourgeois politicians whose hands are covered with blood, having voted for every war budget for six and a half years, but a show of strength of the working people who make this country run, and who can shut it down!

In a February 22 letter to AFL-CIO president John Sweeney, ILWU International president Robert McEllrath reported that at a recent coast-wide union meeting, “One of the resolutions adopted by caucus delegates called on longshore workers to stop work during the day shift on May 1, 2008 to express their opposition to the war in Iraq.”

This is the first time in decades that an American union has decided to undertake industrial action against a U.S. war. It is doubly important that this mobilization of labor’s power is to take place on May Day, the international workers day, which is not honored in the U.S. Moreover, the resolution voted by the ILWU delegates opposes not only the hugely unpopular war in Iraq, but also the war and occupation of Afghanistan (which Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama and Republican John McCain all want to expand). The motion to shut down the ports also demands the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the entire region, including the oil sheikdoms of the strategically important Persian/Arab Gulf.

Ward Connerly's "Super Tuesday for Segregation" Targets Missouri

Ward Connerly, that high profile opponent for affirmative action and Black water carrier for the new Jim Crow, has returned. He wants to eliminate affirmative action everywhere, and make a buck at the same time... Connerly's "Super Tuesday for Equal Rights" is an effort to promote ballot initiatives throughout the country that would eliminate tax dollars to affirmative action programs based on race and gender. He has targeted five states for this year's November ballot -- Arizona, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma -- all of which have relatively low numbers of people of color. In the absence of a determined and coordinated campaign to quash his efforts, he might succeed in taking us back to the future we know too well.

"Supporting segregation need not be racist. One can believe in segregation and believe in equality of the races." - Ward Connerly, on CNN's "Wolf Blitzer Reports," Dec. 13, 2002

Recall Slay. Volunteers needed!

Momentum is gathering to recall Mayor Slay. You can help by either signing petitions at polling places or gathering signatures as a volunteer.

Friends,

February 5th is an opportunity to return democratic government to our city. We can get all the signatures needed on February 5th to force a recall election of Francis Slay. I have been part of the recall effort for the past 6 months. Saturday after Saturday a group of us have gone out in north side wards getting signatures. We have 3 of the 19 wards needed.

If we have sufficient petitioners at the polling sites to handle the record turnouts expected, we will get the rest. In the targeted wards it doesn't take much persuading.

Romanticizing Germany's urban guerillas

For 44 days in the fall of 1977, West Germany’s Red Army Faction (RAF) held captive Hanns Martín Schleyer, a leading German industrialist. In exchange for letting Schleyer go, the RAF—a left-wing urban guerrilla organization—demanded the release of ten imprisoned members, including their leaders, Andreas Baader and Gudrun Ensslin.

Can Anyone Help with Getting my Novel Published?

Hey,
My name is Scott Thomas Smith and I recently finished rewriting a novel which involves social issues and youth and I was wondering if anyone had any means of helping me with getting it published. I don't have an agent and can't really afford to pay anyone to represent me or anything, but I'm hoping to get my work out to a readership. If anyone could help out in any way or knows of any leads in publishing, or if you'd just like to read my work, please email me at theneonheart@gmail.com . I'd greatly appreciate it.
